Portrait of Rocky Mountain Fireworks & Fur Co. founder Dennis Heck

In loving memory

Dennis Lynn Heck

April 2, 1949 — August 2, 2026

Founder, husband, father, grandfather, and a lifelong Caldwell entrepreneur.

Dennis built more than a business. He created a place shaped by family, hard work, curiosity, and a willingness to pursue an idea with his whole heart.

A life built together

Dennis and his wife, Christine, shared 57 years of marriage and a life centered on family. Together they raised their daughters Denise, Becky, Briget, and Jessica, as well as their niece Lesa. Their family grew to include grandchildren and great-grandchildren who remained at the heart of Dennis’s life.

Family gatherings, time with the people he loved, and the simple pleasure of being surrounded by several generations brought him great happiness.

An Idaho original

Dennis learned the value of work early in his parents’ Caldwell business. His entrepreneurial spirit led him through many ventures, but the idea that became Rocky Mountain Fireworks & Fur Co. began in 1971, when Dennis and Chris sold fireworks from a tent on the property where the familiar yellow building would later stand.

By combining summer fireworks with winter fur buying and trapping supplies, Dennis created a year-round family business unlike any other. It grew through persistence, ingenuity, and his instinct for seeing possibility where others might not.

The legacy continues

Dennis lived to see the new Superstore open and made certain he was there for its first Fourth of July. Today, Rocky Mountain Fireworks & Fur Co. remains family run—a continuation of the work, character, and independent spirit he put into it for more than five decades.

Away from business, Dennis enjoyed traveling with Chris and their dog, Huckleberry. He especially loved gardening and flowers, often spending his time planting, transplanting, and tending the yard.
